A spotlight on... Yasmin Russell

Our people are the heart of our agency. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to deliver all the amazing work we do for our clients. In this blog series we chat to a whole host of 26ers about everything from their passions, inspirations and what they get up to outside of work, to what they love most about working at 26. Today the spotlight is on our Senior Account Manager, Yasmin Russell.

1. What made you choose6 to work at 2?

Several LinkedIn reviews including a super easy recruitment process! I gained a lot of support from our Talent Acquisition Manager, Sami Wragg, during the process.

2. How long have you been at 26?

2 years – I joined on October 9th.

3. What’s your current role and have you had any different roles here?

Senior Account Manager (recently promoted in March 2019).

4. Can you describe your job in one sentence?

Driving the best digital strategies for my clients and always providing 100% effort into both the internal team and client to drive performance.

5. What do you like most about your job?

Building international and client relationships. The client services role allows you to step out of your comfort zone and work with a variety of internal experts to deliver strong strategies and projects for your clients.

6. What advice would you give to someone who wanted to get into your area of work?

Be prepared to work hard and strive for the best solutions. Don’t be afraid to ask questions because everyone has different opinions and recommendations. Always know there were probably three different routes you could take to problem solving within the client services role and you’ll keep learning with every positive and negative situation. This will make you a stronger Account Manager as time goes on.

7. What has been your best moment working at 26 so far?

Winning the Star Award in December 2018, this was the recognition I needed to provide me with the confidence with my approach and how I work with teams internally, I’ve also got an amazing CS team who work together and share best practice.

8. What was your dream job as a child?

Surprisingly a nurse! I always wanted to look after people, which sort of reflects the role I’m in now; looking after clients and an internal team. But I don’t think I’d have the patience to be an actual nurse now!

9. What can we find you doing in your spare time?

Exercising, eating pizza, shopping or watching crime documentaries.

10. Who is your favourite person?

My Gran Pam! I have an extremely complex background, so growing up I always felt unsure, worried and stressed about a lot of things children shouldn’t have to deal with. I have an adopted grandmother who I always say ‘saved me’ and allowed me to be who I wanted to be. She’s the kindest human being in the world and my best friend who I trust with everything.

11. What is your favourite quote?

"What people think about you is none of your business". Focusing on the positive manner in which you conduct yourself is always important in work and in life generally, however you can’t change people’s perceptions or opinions of you. They don't define you as an individual.

12. What is your favourite drink?

Green Tea or a Pornstar Martini – depending on the day and the occasion!

13. What is the best country that you’ve visited?

Thailand! I’d recommend anybody who hasn’t visited to book a flight ASAP. It's paradise; the people, food and culture is amazing. It's a personal favourite of mine as my fiancé proposed on Phi Phi Island at the scene in which The Beach film was directed.

14. What fascinates you?

The human mind. I’m a bit obsessed with listening to podcasts specifically about memory and how everyone processes information differently. If you get a chance, I'd recommend watching ‘The Mind, Explained’ on Netflix - it helps define risk takers and the reality of situations you may find yourself in.
